Public Affairs

Children with cancer have different medical and social needs than adults. To ensure proper care, appropriate political frameworks are essential. Through Public Affairs & Lobbying, Childhood Cancer Switzerland aims to bring the concerns of affected children, Survivors and their families into political processes and to raise awareness among decision-makers.

The focus is on fair access to effective therapies, reliable follow-up care and strengthening of childhood cancer research – helping to improve long-term health and quality of life.

What we do

Cost coverage

On 1 January 2024, the new Health Insurance Ordinance came into force. It aims, among other things, to significantly improve the reimbursement of medicines in paediatric oncology.

Care leave

Although the proposal was initially controversial, both chambers of Parliament voted in favour of granting 14 weeks of paid care leave with protection against dismissal for parents of seriously ill children.

Sensitisation

Childhood Cancer Switzerland regularly launches awareness and prevention campaigns. These aim to raise the public’s awareness of childhood cancer and draw attention to the needs as well as challenges of those affected.
